Honoring the Weaving Grandmothers: A Legacy of Craftsmanship
The Somali Museum is proud to celebrate its longest-standing initiative, the Weaving Demonstration and Workshop program. This enduring success is owed to the dedication of our resident artists: Ardho Ismail, Amina Shire, Xalwo Duale, and Hawa Aden.
Using traditional nomadic techniques, these master weavers craft intricate mats and purses, preserving vital aspects of Somali heritage. Our upcoming event pays tribute to their significant contributions to Somali arts and culture, featuring a vibrant program of buraanbur, poetry, and diverse cultural performances.
